As a Child

As a Child

A Poem by stephsand14

As a child, I was close to drowning.

As a child, a car almost hit me.

Life was against me; Death didn’t want me.

They might have been warnings of harsher days,

Preparing me to be resilient,

Telling me always to be vigilant,

Cautious of the direction I walk towards,

Careful of the places I chose to go,

Attentive of the people around me,

But always surviving, always standing.
