Screw

Screw

A Poem by Stephen Cousins
"

An inmate is murdered by a prison officer

"

I know by your eyes that you see in me
The will and desire to be unbound and free
You are chained to my soul in a violent embrace
And I writhe ever deeper, locked in this place

I push and I pull as you hold me down
I am gasping for air as your sweat hits the ground
I rip at your clothes, you tear at my skin
We are frightened and reckless, my passionate twin

There is no escape, I am too far inside
As the walls of this cell meet the incoming tide
I clench and I strain for the joy of release
Then you scream out my name and I am at peace

My fire is out at the end of the war
The blood on your hand leaves you hungry for more
But heaven is mine, passion fulfilled
You button your shirt, I am silent and still
