Time Passes

Time Passes

A Poem by Stephen Cousins
"

The evolution of a famous ship

"

Time passes.

In the forest, by a stream, an acorn falls

It takes root in the ground

Changing from seed to sapling

Breathing in the sunlight

Drinking deeply from the soil.

Time passes.

In the clearing, by a river, an oak is razed

It takes time to shape

Changing from tree to timber

Carpenters ply their trade

Builders sweat and toil.

Time passes.

In dry dock, by the ocean, a ship waits

It takes to the water

Changing from boat to Beagle

Darwin steps aboard

And journeys in to history

Time passes.

In the books of a library, the Beagle lives on

It takes root in our being

Changed from acorn to icon

“All ahead full”

Evolution takes a bow.
