Walls of Fear

Walls of Fear

A Poem by Stephen Cousins
"

A poem about the constant fear of failure which underpins our existence, crushing hopes and dreams, drowning optimism and leading to our ultimate self destruction.

"

Memories flood through my mind

Of family and friends

Whom I may never hope to see

Before this nightmare ends

My Officers go safely home

To those whom they hold dear

But in lonely isolation

I am breathing in my fear

And sinking ever deeper

All encompassed in my cell

The wreckage of my stormy seas

Has now become my Hell

As Captain of this ship

I have drifted, rowed and sailed

But the walls of fear have taken me

And I have truly failed
