Pain

Pain

A Poem by Stephanie
"

This poem is based on my diabetic neuropathy and other medical issues that causes me pain.

"
Every night I lay in bed crying
Because I can feel my body slowly dying
I want to surrender
I want to live a new adventure
Please God take me home
I'll accept my defeat
This pain that was given to me
Is making it almost impossible to stand on my own two feet
This pain is so intense
It's literally demanding
The want and need for a cure
Is almost intimidating
This pain I'm talking about
Starts from the top of my head
Working it's way through my body
Until it finally reaches my toes
The extent of misery I feel everyday
Is something that nobody knows
Because I put a fake smile on my face
And try my hardest to survive another day

I deal with the same issue; diabetic neuropathy, retinopathy, and an amputated leg's phantom pain. It can be horrible, and Lyrica helps a little, but not much.
What does help is keeping your mind occupied and not dwelling on your pain.
Tell yourself, when it gets bad, that there are many people who have it so much worse. I am grateful that I am alive. It does help. I am living in a wheelchair now, between the missing leg and my inability to put that remaining foot on the ground without severe pain.
Dealing with all that, and bursitis in my elbows--not to mention torn rotator cuffs in both shoulders, it can be quite challenging. You know, I can't get the shoulder problem fixed, because I need to be able to transfer from my wheelchair to the toilet, and my bed.
I'm telling you all of this because I believe you need to hear it. I haven't listed all my physical challenges here before; most of my friends are unaware of the extent of the suffering I endure. But you are hurting in some of the same ways, so let me just give you this encouragement...
With time, you will--and I know this is hard to believe, but it is true--you will begin to get used to it. Have courage, my dear, and know that you will adapt. I don't know why this happens; I only know it does.
Lastly, pray. I also will pray for you, right now...dear lord, please be with Stephanie, and lay Your healing hand upon her body, and touch also her mind and help her learn to cope. I am asking You for this, Father, in the name of Your beloved Son, Jesus...amen.
Feel better, Stephanie.

I hear you Stephanie in this outpouring of your emotions and state of mind and body. Eloquently done your poem. Wish no one suffered in this world. But sadly we do. Please take some comfort in knowing others do care and relate to you. Wish I could wave a magic wand. And heal us all. Hopefully expressing yourself in your writings. Will aid in some comfort. And realizing also you are far from alone. Have you tried hypnosis tapes and music to help you feel a little better also? Like mind over matter. Sometimes they say it does easy it a little.
