Chapter one

Senior Year

Beep beep beep beep!  Click. The awful noise finally stopped as I hit the snooze button on my alarm clock. 6:05.Yeah, right.  I was not going to get up just yet.  Just five more minutes.

"Jaquelyne Claire Eustice Anne Bordeaux!!" Jaquie’s mom, Linda Bordeaux, hollered from down stairs.

Uh-oh. That's Mom.  How late have I slept? Boy I'm in for it now! I leaped out of bed. Oh man, I thought. I'm gonna be late on the first day of school!

I jumped into the shower and quickly washed my curly blonde hair; and jumped back out. Then I pulled on a pair of jeans and a bright pink shirt. I clicked the blow-dryer on high and started drying my hair. When it was finally dry, I plugged in my Chi straightener.

There! I'm done straightening! Finally! Oh no!! I've only got five minutes!!

Panicked about the time, I stuffed a small chocolate chip muffin in my mouth as I pulled on my black converse.  I put my three inch long earrings into my ears and placed one long necklace, which I doubled over, around my neck.  I applied my make up quickly but carefully then brushed my teeth.  I grabbed my stuff from the chair and my keys off the counter.  I jumped into my car: a silver, two-door Honda Accord and stuck the key into the ignition. I sped down the street, barely missing my neighbor's cat.  I drove the seven mile drive in a record of time before reaching Beachside High.

I got to the school with barely any time left. I ran to my locker and yanked it open, grabbed my stuff, and checked my schedule to make sure I was headed to the right class.  I opened the door to my first hour class room and dove into my seat just as the bell rang.  I grinned. This is how the first day of school had been for me since ninth grade. But boy, I was really pushing it this time! My classmates hid their snickers as the teacher, Mr. Boldenschneiner, walked into the room.

Mr. Boldenschneiner is mostly bald with big, bushy eyebrows. He has square glasses at the end of his large triangular nose. On top off all this, he has a goatee.  But weirdest of all, he is wearing a lime green suit!! And then there are his shoes! They are blue suede! What a sense of style he has!

Mr. Boldenschneiner did not even take role. I take note of this.  Mr. Boldenschneiner is telling us not to call him Mr. B.  Not call him Mr. B?!  I cannot even pronounce Boldenschneiner!  Oh well. I have the feeling this is going to be a boring class. I can't wait till the bell rings!  A note ended up in my desk. It is from Trevor Eldds. Trevor is a friend of mine who has dark brown hair that has blonde highlights in it, and he has brown eyes. He and his sister both go to my church. I read the note quickly and tossed it to him. Now we are passing notes like crazy. By the end of class it reads:

(Trevor) Boring! Lamest class ever! Even lamer than Mrs. Shwart wart in 9th grd! He’s spent 47 min talking about his self. Wow. This is gonna be ez!

(Jaquie) ya Ur right! Terrible! You come 2 schools to learn academics, not about your teachers college!

(Trevor) yeah. What r u talking about? He’s talking about his college? What’s academics?

(Jaquie) Trev, Uv got 2 b kidding me! Academics is the stuff u learn (or r supposed 2)

(Trevor) oh. Whateva. So u r playing football this year?

(Jaquie) duh. Of coarse I am! I’ve played every year since 8th grade!

(Trevor) 8 grade? Wow. I knew that. Really.

(Jaquie) Wateva, Trevor, wateva

(Trev) Na, really well, bells gonna ring in 45 secs so ttfn

(Jaquie) ttyl.

The bell rang.  I get to my locker, and a ton sevies (also known as seventh graders) were in my way.  I groan.  That is one thing I can't stand about the top lockers. You always have to be careful not to drop your stuff on the people below you, and half of the time you can not even get to your locker. I push my way through, open my locker, look in my mirror, and put my first hour stuff away and get my second hour things out. While doing this, I talk to Parker, whose whole name is actually Hilary Parker Paris Lakes, and Mist, whose whole name is Samantha Louisa Misty Hills, who, apparently, have lockers next to mine. Parker has shoulder-length light brown (almost blonde) hair that is thick and wavy, and she has blue-green eyes. Mist has curly, dirty-blonde hair, and she has blue eyes.

"How did your first hour go?" asks Parker.

"Weird. I got Mr. Boldenschneiner. I ended up passing notes the whole time."

"That’s nice," Mist says. "We got Mrs. Kracken. What kinda name is that? Kracken. It sounds like a sea monster off of a movie like Pirates of the Caribbean II or something."

“That’s because it is,” I told her.

“Oh! That makes since,” she said back.

"Well, we gotta go to second hour guys, come on!" Parker is always worried about being

late.

“All right, but as far as I know, we’re not guys; we’re girls.”

“Well, whatever you are, let’s go,” Parker said, already starting down the hall.

We are all in the same second hour.  So are Jaysson Blades, who is in all my classes, and Trey Denton. Trey is this amazing guy who is the most popular guy in the whole school and is dangerously hott. He has shaggy dark brown hair and eyes that are extremely blue and he is both tall and buff. Jaysson, who is a close friend but more like another brother, or at least one of them, has blonde hair and eyes the same light shade of blue as the sky.  We all walked down the all to second hour.  Ms. Lane is the teacher. She is a new teacher, and is very young.  And very strict. She starts class by taking role. Then she goes through all the rules.

"Here are your text books," she says. "Turn to page eleven."

Oh brother. Page eleven happens to about protozoa. Protozoa? That is so tenth grade.

"You should know this stuff by now, class." Mrs. Lane is saying. "So tomorrow you will have a test over it. Test over pages one through eleven. Tomorrow."

"Jaquelyne Claire Bordeaux please come to the office; Jaquelyne Claire Bordeaux."

Humph. They pronounced my name wrong. I am French, and the name Jaquelyne is obviously a French name; my dad is French, and my mom is, well, American.  But, any ways, I was happy to leave class, so I left quickly. Principle Lapple hands me a new schedule.  I quickly look over it. It reads:

FIRST HOUR:  LITERATURE - MR. BOLDENSCHNEINER

SECOND HOUR:  BIOLOGY - MS. LANE

THIRD HOUR:  TRIG - MRS. EUPHRY

FOURTH HOUR:  GEOGRAPHY - MR. GOPHE

FIFTH HOUR: PHOTOGRAPHY – MR. SNIDER

SIXTH HOUR:  HISTORY - MR. BLAN

SEVENTH HOUR: SPANISH - MRS. LOPEZ

. Mr. Blan?!  He's more boring than Mr. Boldenschneiner! Mrs. Lopez. I wonder if she is related to Mario Lopez.  Who knows? At least they didn’t try to put me into French class again.

I take my time walking back to second hour. By the time I get there, there is five minutes left. Ms. Lane tells me we are supposed to do pages twelve through twenty-two for homework.

Holy cow! That is a ton of work! And on the first day of school!?

The bell rang.  Third hour went by very fast.  Mrs. Euphry usually makes things go by fast; I had her last year as my History teacher.  Fourth hour I spent passing notes with Trey. He obviously wrote in Sharpie. This is what it looks like:

Hey this is trey. This is too easy of a class! Mr. g should be teaching the sevies! Not seniors in high school!

Hey Trey. Ya, its way 2 e z. totally agree. So . . . what are u doin 2 night?

I don kno y?

Just wondering.

Oh. Sure.

No really. Ok u got me. What r u doin 2 night?    Y!?  Cuz i wanna kno.  Y do ya wanna no?  OMG trey just tell me!  Ha! Wow u r fun 2 annoy. TREY!  K, k sry. I‘ll answer. Im not doin ne thing. Thank u! That’s cool. Man. where did summer go?  Seriously!  Beats me! Lol I don’t no. where did my life go? Jk. No but seriously. I mean, were already seniors in high school!  Yeah but barely.  We better stop. Passing notes. Miss tattle tale is watching us.  Lol ok the bells gonna ring ne way.

Fifth hour was very boring. Then lunch came. Today there was pizza for lunch. I sit down across from Trey and next to Parker.  Natalie, Raylie, Mist, Trevor, Jaysson, and Keith sit down soon afterwards. I can see Sierra Eldds, my brother Zackarie, and all of their other eleventh grade friends sitting at the table across from ours. Sierra is Trevor’s younger sister and Zackarie’s girlfriend. She has the same brown eyes and dark brown hair as her older brother, except her hair is wavy.

Keith Hodge has black hair that is in between being short and shaggy and he has green eyes.  All my friends have relatively long names. Natalie’s whole name is Natalie Anne Michelle Derree; Raylie’s is Raylie Tyler Beth Jervy. Natalie has dark brown hair and green eyes, and Raylie has brown hair and brown eyes.

"Guess who Jaquie was passing notes to first hour," Natalie says.

Trevor gives her a look that clearly says, Shut up.

"Trevor," She continues in a sing song voice.

"Oooooo!" tease Mist and Keith. Trey laughs and Raylie smiles and shakes her head.

"Oh come on guys! That’s really mature." is my (sarcastic) reply.

"Yeah, really. You should have seen who she was writing to fourth hour!"  Parker teased.

"Hey!" Trey spoke up. Now he was the one starting to blush.

"Aww come on now, guys, seriously! Not cool! How come I'm always getting teased?"

"Well, you are fun to tease!" I groan. Jaysson is always saying that kind of thing. We are best friends, but he can really get on my nerves; for example, he practices all his pickup lines on me, and he is constantly teasing me. Boys are so weird, but some are so amazing.

The rest of the day went pretty boring. As soon as school let out, I grabbed my backpack, purse, and cell phone and drove my Honda Accord over to the activity center and football field. I change in the girl’s locker room and head out to the field to warm up.

Football practice is tough. We do a ton of running. Since Coach Blades knows I’m quarterback, he makes me practice extra hard. Trey has to practice hard, too, because he is back-up quarterback. Coach also makes Jaysson, who is running back, practice hard, because Jaysson is his son.

At the end of practice everyone is very sweaty. All the guys went to the locker room to take showers. They need showers badly! Take it from some one that knows: when guys get out of football practice, they stink! Girls never smell even close to as bad as guys do after football practice. I head to the girls locker room to shower. All the cheerleaders are in there. I can’t stand cheerleaders. So I shower up and leave to go home.

When I got home, I noticed Chad’s car is in the driveway. Chad is my brother who is in college, and he is nineteen years old. I have five brothers: Chad, Jake, who is twenty-two and is a doctor, Zackarie, who is a year younger than me (he is a junior and is sixteen), Joshua, who is 14 and in ninth grade, and Brock, who is twelve and in the seventh grade. I do not have any sisters, that are still alive, that is.

“Hey Chad, what are you doing here?” I ask.

“Gee, thanks, Jaquelyne. Is that all the welcome I get? I came to see my favorite little sister!”

Chad, I'm pretty much your only sister.”

“Still,” he said. “I deserve a better welcome than that.”

“Yeah right.”

Chad sent me a warning look, a look that says to stop it.

“Sorry.” I said.

“Oh don’t be, you know I was just teasing you.”

“Yeah, I’m not dumb.”

“Hey, hey, cool it down! Don’t lose your temper! So, how’s it feel to be a big bad senior?”

“Is cool.”

“Course it is, course it is.”

He thinks he is so cool just because he is in college. It is pretty funny, actually. We all sat down to dinner. It was pretty cool that almost the whole family was there. All we were missing was Jake.
