Legend of Opal Fisher, chapter 2

Legend of Opal Fisher, chapter 2

A Story by Stephanie M

I wasn't sure if my eyes were deceiving me, but I could tell that the ground began to slope downward for many

yards. The downgrade led into a huge cavelike opening. I hesitated briefly, before venturing inside. I relit my

lantern, and noticed the inside resembled a labrinythine catacomb. Was this some sort of burial chamber? It

occurred to me by the size of the tombs, that these could not be ordinary human beings buried here. Reluctantly,

I ventured deeper into the cave. I hesitated briefly as I heard blood curdling screams. I flattened myself against a

rock, and got a quick glimpse of what was up ahead. Huge, grotesque, hairy beasts were carrying terrified people

under their arms, like dolls. Some of the humans were hanging in huge birdlike cages, suspended from chains. The

others were being boiled alive in giant cauldrons.

I stifled a scream. Could these be the same giants my gypsy family had warned me of? They had beams that

could see through miles of rock, that they use to kidnap surface humans. They have been known to cause

nightmares, and even airplane crashes. What did my brothers call them? Oh yeah, "Sadistic Idiots." How am I ever

going to retrieve the Clear Quartz from a place like this? I remembered these creatures are not too bright. I threw a

few rocks into the chamber, and they all scattered, running in different directions with their hands in the air. I took

advantage of the distraction, and escaped through a small crevice into another tunnel.

Suddenly, I found a strange room. In the center of the room, I found a gigantic table made of Clear Quartz,

that was shaped like the state of Florida. It had a heart shaped hole in it, with a red flower blooming from it's center.

It was so beautiful, I hated to take a chunk from it. I took my rock hammer, and chipped off a small section for my

collection.
