Rise of the Phoenix

Rise of the Phoenix

A Poem by Lewis Tedesco
"

The rise, death, and resurrection of a heart.

"

RISE OF THE PHOENIX

I’ve been beat down, battered and bruised. I’ve been set on fire by my own heart, by my love, by the burning desire for you that I can’t seem to put out. Like the song of the Sirens, you lure me in day after day, fanning the flames of my love for you. One day, your song will end, the flames will turn to embers and cause my heart to burn and smolder slowly. When all that is left of me is a pile of grey, charred ashes, I will be okay. I am a Phoenix; I will rise from the ashes and rekindle my ability to give burning love to someone. But you…you will still be lonely, doomed to never rise about your own ignorance, constantly looking for the next heart to put out and never being able to rise from the debris that you leave when you’re done.
