Why Not Lie With the Wolf?A Poem by GabiA pale sheep named morality begs you not to snap it’s neck. Down on your luck you’ve gone and sold your soul to a cheat but you are no victim and your beast is only one tooth shy of a monster’s bite. So why not lie with the wolf? He swears he’ll make you feel free. Flea-bitten, he coaxes you to rest at his side shows you what it is to be addicted to life and limb to the metallic tang of blood and the acrid scent of cigarette smoke. So why not lie with the wolf? Together you scream songs at a half moon your glass half empty his half full. So why not lie with the wolf? He makes you feel alive. So what if he tears you up so long as he seals each cut with a kiss…? So what if he snaps his jaws at you whenever he is feeling weak? …. He only made you bleed once… So what if you wonder where he goes when he is not with you? When he touches you, he feels like home. You hold onto that thought tightly, until you hear a slight crack. Morality never looked so weak as it did in that moment with your fingers locked around it’s slender neck. It’s pleas would grow quiet and a cloak of desperation would wrap itself around you as you knelt beside it. but only see the wolf behind your eyes. © 2017 Gabi |
