Chapter Ten

A month went by without Daniel talking to me. At first I figured he'd talk to me when he wanted to, but that never really seemed to happen. I was beginning to think he would never talk to me again. But of course, he took me by surprise.

            I was asleep on a Friday night when he came through my window. I had been leaving it unlocked just in case he wanted to drop by. As quiet as he was coming in, I woke up to find him halfway through the window. I could barely manage a smile. I hadn't gotten much sleep that week.

            "What are you doing here?" I whispered. I sat up and stretched, hoping I would be able to stay awake to hear his answer.

            "Visiting you. Why else would I be here?" He asked.

            "Oh, I don't know. Maybe you wanted to steal some of my stuff? Look, can you just come back tomorrow? And use the front door."

            "Aw, but this is so much more fun. How about I just stay over and sneak out before the sun rises? Then I'll come back around eight."

            "Eight? That's way too early. I've already worried my mom enough with having you in my room before. She won't accept it so easily this time. Come back at three."

            "Noon."

            "Fine. Good night." I lay back down, but he didn't leave. He just sat on my bed, staring at me. "Do you want something?"

            "No, I'm good. See ya, Ky." He climbed out my window, even quieter than before. I hadn't heard him call me Ky in so long. It sounded nice.

            Unfortunately I was too tired to focus on the sound of it. I would have to wait until tomorrow.

Daniel has a lot of nerve to not speak to Kyland in a month and then come sneaking in the window late at night. Thank God she told him to go home and come back using the front door.
