Chapter Seven

Chapter Seven

A Chapter by Sammie

When the sun came up, I got out of bed and showered, locking my door every time I left my room and taking the key with me everywhere I went. I tried to take a quick shower in case Daniel woke up, but I didn't want to get out. The water was warm and I didn't have to think about anything.

After I finally got out, I brushed through my hair and brushed my teeth. By the time I had gone in my room to get clothes, which I had forgotten in the midst of my shock, my shower felt years away. I wanted to take another one, but my mom would be suspicious.

Daniel's eyes were close, but his breathing wasn't as even as it was when he was actually asleep. I knew he was faking, but I didn't mention anything. I just went about my business and went downstairs for breakfast, locking the door as I left.

"You're up early," My mom said when I sat on a bar stool at the counter. She was making omelets.

"I wasn't very tired," I shrugged. That was a complete lie. I was very tired last night. I just didn't sleep.

"You've got some light circles under your eyes. Go cover that up with the make-up I bought you." I slid of the bar stool and went back up to my room and put on the make-up to cover the circles. I hadn't noticed them before, but now they stood out.

It was noon when I made Daniel wake up. I knew I shouldn't have and I regretted it the moment he opened his eyes. I should've let him fake his way through sleeping all day. What a mistake that was.

"Sorry I…woke you. You can sleep more if you want," I suggested. He looked tired, too. He must've woken up early.

"No thanks. I should go home. My dad will be looking for me. Or at least wondering where I am."

"You really have to go?" I was disappointed. I liked having him at my house, even if I wasn't in the same room as him.

"Probably. My dad will freak out and call the police if I don't get home soon. I'll see you around." Daniel made his way toward my window, but we both stopped.

"It's light out…people will see you and tell my mom. You can't go out the front either. She'll see you."

"Can I call my dad then? I'll just tell him I'm at a friends' place."

Daniel didn't leave until Monday morning when he had to go home and get ready for school. He had showered whenever my mom left the house and I brought him food three times a day. He told me to only bring food once a day, but I brought it three times and he ate it all every time.

I was starting to never want him to leave. It was selfish, yes, considering his current state of emotion and mind. Was it wrong, though? I don't know. The only person I am is me, so I don't know if other people think these things, too. Maybe I just think differently than everyone else. Maybe it is selfish. Who knows? I sure don't care at this point. I just want him here.

Again you've left out a lot of details in this chapter. It is good but doesn't make much sense logically. Daniel has spent so much time with Kyland yet she's hardly ever curious to know more about him! She never asks him about his family and never even wonders about it herself. Also, he's been over at her place so many times, has she never even wondered where he lives and if he'll ever invite her over?

Also, I'm a bit skeptical about the fact that Kyland's mother doesn't notice her daughter behaving oddly. If she's getting food for Daniel three times a day, surely this can't go unnoticed by her mom.

Why would Daniel stay at Kyland's house all day, faking sleep? Didn't he want to talk about his mother, he might as well go home if he is just going to lay there faking sleep. What did his father say when he called? Didn't Daniel have to go to his mother's funeral? He just went back to school as if nothing happened?

now daniel's family is wondering where he is... why not earlier ?? and why so many days away at this time. ? wouldnt he want to be at home, attending to what needs doing. ?? there should be some noises that the family is picking up on... bathroom ?? where is the food going ?? there are opportunities here for fleshing out your characters and plot. again, editing stage. and i still have no satisfying answer as to why ky changed her mind about needing friends. what do these two have in common other than sharing middle of the night chats. ? you are persevering in your story and i like that. these are just questions that come to mind as i read.
