Chapter Five

Chapter Five

A Chapter by Sammie

The next time I saw Daniel wasn't the same as all the rest. He seemed so different now that liking him was a possibility. I had never noticed how precious his face was. How beautiful his eyes were. How perfect his skin was. He looked like an angel.

I never understood what people meant when they said someone looks like an angel. I had never seen an angel. How do you know what angels look like? I guess it's one of those things you have to see to really understand.

I thought about liking Daniel more and more. Those thoughts led to loving Daniel. I didn't know what being in love was. I knew how much I loved my family, but I didn't know how to be in love with anyone. I didn't know what the signs were, but I knew I had to be close.

I already loved Daniel as a friend. There was no doubt about that. I had to figure out if I was in love with him. That was the only thing I thought about until Christmas Eve. I hadn't even remembered it was Christmas Eve. I usually counted down to it. I had really been missing out.

Daniel couldn't come by on Christmas Day. He had to spend time with his family. However, he did come by that night. I wasn't expecting him, because he told me he couldn't come. He loved telling me he couldn't come and then coming when I least expected it. I loved it, too.

He really took me by surprise when he had a gift for me that night. I didn't think to get him anything. I'd only known him for two and a half weeks. Maybe it was something people did here. Maybe he's just different.

A necklace. Daniel gave me a beautiful necklace. It was the kind I would wear all the time. Jewelry has always been something I only wear a little bit of. I only wear a certain necklace, a certain bracelet, and a certain ring. Nothing else. I have other jewelry, but I only wear three pieces of it.

"Daniel, I can't believe you did this," I said, admiring the necklace in my hands. I was careful with it, like it would break if I touched it the wrong way.

"I hope you like it," He said. And I did. I did like it. It was so beautiful. I couldn't put it down.

            "I love it!"

With your reference that Daniel looked like "an angel," I'm wondering if we are going to find that he is indeed an angel. I too was wondering what made the necklace so special, apparently it wasn't just because it came from Daniel.

i'm really itchy now to have some knowledge of daniel's family life.... perhaps worked into a conversation with ky. ?? i'm a bit confused by the timing of the story... here mid terms are in late january...and in your story they are in december (?) it surprised me that christmas was approaching. maybe that's a picky point, but again, it's a bit jarring for me. i think i would need the timing established earlier in the story. i liked seeing some her thought processes here.
I guess it's one of those things you have to see to really understand. maybe this needs to be a spiritual reference rather than physical sense ??
if ky doesnt know what love is...maybe she can only sense she is close rather than know it.
what did the necklace look like and why is it so appealing to her. ??
i hope i am not overdoing it,,,,but i am writing questions as i read... if it's too much, let me know.
