We're Falling

We're Falling

A Poem by Starrytide
"

A poem reflecting my thoughts of the country..

"
Arguing not to listen, but to talk,
We forget that we are one.
Pushing our thoughts all around,
Forgetting all we've ever done.
Our memories and our values,
Hold us entitled to what we see.
But entitled, we are not,
To what others may believe.
In the rage of flames and pain,
We're losing our way.
In the moments of violence,
We're lost to yesterday.
Clinging blindly, swinging wildly,
We forget all about our friends,
Anger and hurt flash in our eyes,
As we sever with loose ends.
How can we continue on like this:
Destruction leads to a bigger scar,
And no matter how strong or weak our leaders may be,
We cannot forget who we are.

I quite enjoyed this. Indeed people forget themselves in arguments. The penultimate line is a bit of a mouthful, however, and kind of mars the musicality of the whole piece. And since that line doesn't need to rhyme with anything, it could very well shave off and rearrange a few syllables to better fit the flow. Well done!
