Chapter 5

Jared found Lindsey and Kamlyn in the hospital cafeteria talking about Kara’s accident as he ordered some tacos and found a table far enough way so as not to be seen but could still hear the girls’ conversation.

After the girls left the cafeteria, he decided against confronting the girls for now. Jared wanted to give them the impression that they won. He would get revenge on the two in his own way.

When Jared went back to Kara’s room to see her, he was surprised to see Kamlyn waiting outside Kara’s hospital room.

“Hey, girls, waiting to see Kara?”

“Yeah, we just wanted to pay our respects to Kara,” Kamlyn told him while Lindsey was visiting with Kara.

“Yeah, tough break for Kara….” Jared let it slip; hoping Kamlyn would take the bait.

“Yeah, too bad she won’t be competing in the competition?”

“Well, there’ll be others.”

“Yeah, but it’s got to be troubling for Kara, she was such a good rider.” Kamlyn said just as Lindsey came out of Kara’s room.

“Kara wanted to see you Kam,” Lindsey said coming out of Kara’s hospital room.

As Kamlyn went inside Kara’s hospital room, it was Lindsey’s turn to be subtly interrogated by Jared.

“Are you here to see Kara?” Lindsey asked him.

“Yeah, but I seem to get interrupted, first by her parents and then by you and Kamlyn?”

“Oh, well, I’m sure you’ll get your turn.”

“Well, I can wait.”

“So, it’s too bad for Kara, out of the competition?”

“Yeah, but like I told Kamlyn, there’ll be others.”

“Yeah, I supposed you’re right.”

By then, Kamlyn had exited Kara’s hospital room, “Well, Linds, are you ready to go?”

“Yes,” Lindsey told her, creeped out by her and Jared’s talk wondering if Jared was fishing for information.

Jared headed into Kara’s room before he lost his chance to see Kara while Kamlyn and Lindsey discussed Jared’s talk, both girls wondering if Jared was looking for information about Kara’s accident.
