Writing Prompt: 3-2-1--Gone!!!!!

3-2-1 Gone: Your protagonist opens a purse or a desk drawer and finds three objects. By the end of your story there’s only one item left. What happens to the other two?

 

I opened up my back pack to retrieve my cell phone and found a diary, a pencil and a piece of paper.  Intrigued by the contents of the diary, I sat down on the park bench to read it.  It was about some girl’s kidnapping.  Halfway through the diary, some strange guy was staring at me and motioning me to come toward him.  Against my better judgment, I walked over to him.  That’s when he snatched the diary from my arm and ran off.  I ran after him, but he was too far ahead and I lost him.  Then, a weird thing happened!  I received a text message from an unknown source telling me to go after the man to get the diary back.  The caller text me telling me where the guy was headed and told me to write down the directions.  Just as soon as I finished writing down the directions, a strong gust of wind blew the paper away, causing me to drop my pencil down the sewer.  The caller text me back and asked me what I was waiting for?  I told them I would do what they wanted.  But now I would have to rely on my wits since I lost everything that I found in my back pack.  What would I find when I found who the caller was?
