Chapter 4

Detective Michael Burns just happened to come outside as he watched the dark figure, he assumed to be the Text-Message Killer, chloroform his girlfriend, Anna, and put her in his trunk. The dark figure got into his car and drove off before Michael could catch him, so he got into his police cruiser and followed them. He radioed dispatch that he had a perp on his trail, but was not going to turn on his lights because the perp had his girlfriend, Anna, in the trunk.

Detective Burns continued to follow the perp for like 30 minutes. It seemed like the perp was just driving with no destination in mind. But just when Det. Burns was getting fidgety, the perp pulled over at a roadside table on the side of the road just outside town.

Then the perp got out of the car and went to the back of the car and opened the trunk. He pulled Anna out of the trunk, who had regained consciousness. Holding a gun on her, the perp ordered her to walk to the lake. Det. Burns followed at a safe distance behind until he could get Anna away from the perp. Det. Burns wanted this guy off the streets. He had already killed three people. He couldn't have him kill another.

The perp handed Anna her cell and ordered her to text-message Michael and tell him she was committing suicide. Luckily, Det. Burns had his phone on vibrate in his pocket so the phone wouldn't ring and ruin the situation. He took it out and read the text from Anna.

“I can't take handle things anymore. I'm out at the lake. I'm gonna drown myself in the lake. Good-bye!”

As soon as Anna sent the text, the perp grabbed the phone and threw it into the lake. Then the perp forced Anna into the lake intending to drown her. Just as the perp was about to hold Anna's head underwater, Det. Burns came up from behind him and jumped on him. As they struggled in the water, Anna ran back up on shore, happy to see Michael.

Finally, after what seemed like several minutes, Det. Burns was able to subdue the perp and bring him to shore, handcuffing him. Anna was so relieved to find that Michael was alright, she kissed him as he led the perp to his police cruiser and put him in the back seat. Then he help Anna into the front passenger seat and then he got into the driver's seat, radioed dispatch that he had the perp in custody and was bringing him in.
