Blast from the Past

Jenny has just gotten out of her car from a hard day's work when she gets an unexpected call from Brad, her college sweetheart. They had once been engaged to get married, and when they had graduated from college they decided to get married. But two weeks before the wedding, Brad called off the wedding, saying that he wasn't ready to get married. Jenny was crushed when Brad broke the news to her. Two weeks later, Jenny learned from her bestie, Ciara Thomas, that Brad had been seeing another girl on the side; Jenny just didn't know that it was Ciara he was seeing.

Now, 10 years after they have graduated from college, Brad calls her up out of the blue. She answers the phone, curious as to what he wants.

"Hello?" Jenny opens up her cell to retrieve call.

"Jenny? It's me, Brad Timmins, your college sweetheart?"

"Hello, Brad. It's nice to hear from you after all these years."

"I called to ask if you available to go with me to our 10-year college anniversary at ASU?"

"Well, I'll have to talk it over with my husband, Jerry, first. He hasn't come home from work yet. Can I get back to you later?"

"Oh, okay. You're married." Brad sounded a little crushed. "So, how have you been after all these years?"

"Great! I met Jerry seven years ago and we were married two years later."

"Well, good, Jenny. I have to confess the real reason why I called off the wedding was I was seeing your friend, Ciara."

"Oh? Ciara told me you were seeing someone else. She didn't tell me it was her you were seeing."

"I'm so sorry for the hurt I caused you. I paid the price hooking up with Ciara. We married a short while later, but the marriage only lasted 6 months. I found out she was cheating on me."

"Ciara cheated on you? I never thought she would be the type."

"When I found out about her affair, I knew I was a fool for letting you go."

"Well, I guess, sometimes we have to learn the hard way."

"Well, Jenny, if you and Jerry still want to go to our college anniversary, let me know. Nice to hear from you, girl."

"Okay, Brad. I will talk it over with Jerry."

"Ok, Jenny." And Brad and and Jenny ended the call.

As Jenny hung up, she realized the hurt that she felt when Brad broke off the engagement, but she felt sorry for Brad, because he got hurt when he married Ciara. She silently thanks Brad for ending the engagement, because she met Jerry Evans, the love of her life. Jenny thought Brad was that special person for her, but she soon realized that Brad wasn't the one for her when she met and fell madly in love with Jerry.
