Chapter 1

Marie woke up to hear her phone beeping and a text message from her boyfriend Max. It said that he loved her and missed her and wanted to meet her for breakfast in an hour. Marie missed Max, who had been away on a business trip for the last week. She jumped out of bed and dressed in a short pink skirt and pink halter that Max adored so much, combed her hair in a flirtatious bun, brushed her teeth, and ran out the door to meet Max.

As soon as Marie got into her car, there was another text-message from Max telling her to meet at Denny's for an early breakfast. As soon as Marie pulled into the Denny's parking lot, she didn't see Max's Subaru. She thought it odd that Max wasn't here since he was so punctual. She decided to wait inside Denny's for him. When she got inside the restaurant, Camille, Denny's morning cheerful hostess was on top of things and seated her almost immediately. A few minutes later, Carrie, her server, came by to take her order. Marie told her to bring her a cup of coffee with lots of sugar and creamer. Then Marie pulled out her I-pad and began reading her Kindle while waiting for Max.

An hour had passed and Max still hadn't shown up. Then she noticed a man in a pin-striped suit across from her table watching her. Marie began to get the "creeps" and decided to leave. She paid for her coffee and headed for her car. But before she could get in, someone placed a chloroformed hanky over her mouth and nose. Soon, she felt herself go limp in mysterious arms, before completely losing consciousness.

When Marie came to, she found herself lying naked on a blanket near the lake. Then she saw a man glaring at her from above. He told her to get up and run. She did as she was told and that was when he flung the knife directly in her direction and hit her in the back. Marie went down almost instantly, then she died as she went down on the ground.
