Episode 4

A Chapter by A Soap Mess Stories

(Tamara knocks on Cody's door.)

TAMARA

Cody, may I come in?

CODY

Yes, mother, the door is open.

TAMARA

I just want to thank you for your part in this scheme to get revenge on Seth,

CODY

What did Seth Rainier do to deserve this revenge, mother?

TAMARA

You wouldn't understand, son.

CODY

Mother, I hated lying to Abby, pretending to be a student and asking her for a date.

TAMARA

I know dear.  But it had to be done.

CODY

Mother, you know I'm gay.

TAMARA

Yes, Cody, I know that.  But I can't let Seth know that.

CODY

Why, Mother?  Why can't Seth or anyone know that I'm gay?

TAMARA

Because Seth Rainier is your father, and he wouldn't understand that he has a gay son.  He knows your his son, but he doesn't know that you are gay.

CODY

Seth Rainier is my father?  I'm glad you told me Mother, because I was developing feelings for his son, Seth, III.

TAMARA

But Seth III isn't gay is he?

CODY

I don't know Mother, I never got the chance to ask him.  Now I don't have to, since he is my half-brother.

TAMARA

Yes, it is a good thing to know that.

CODY

Well, Mother, I have to get to work at the TV station.  I am supposed to be covering the murder of Coralee Cranston today.

TAMARA

Okay son, have a nice day.

(Scene fades out.)

(Seth II is confused by Tamara's news that Cody is their son.  But he can't believe that Jackson was responsible for murdering Coralee.  He goes to Jackson's mansion to confront him.)

(Jackson's manservant answers the door to Seth II and ushers him inside the foyer and directs Seth to the sitting room, where Jackson joins him shortly.)

JACKSON

Seth, what can I do for you?

SETH II

I have news that you killed my maid Coralee?

JACKSON

Really, Seth, do you really think I killed Coralee?

SETH II

I don't know, Jackson.  I got some very unsettling news last night.

JACKSON

Well, I am not responsible for the death of Coralee.  I don't know who told you I was but they're obviously delusional.

SETH II

So you're positive you didn't kill Coralee?

JACKSON

Yes, The Banks Brothers already questioned me and I was cleared of any suspicion.

SETH II

Well, thanks Jackson.  I know you and I have had our issues, but I know you wouldn't kill Coralee.

JACKSON

Yes, we certainly have had our problems, haven't we?

(Scene fades out as Seth leaves Jackson's mansion.)

(Cody arrives at the TV station ready to start on his story, but is told that he is redirected on another story.)

PRODUCER

Cody, I've moved you to another story.  You're not doing the Coralee Cranston murder anymore.

CODY

What story am I on?

PRODUCER

We just got word that Abigail Levitt has been missing since last night.  We want you on the case.

CODY

Me.  You want me on the case of the missing Levitt girl.

PRODUCER

Yes, Cody.

CODY

Okay.  But I don't know what good I can do?

PRODUCER

You'll do your job and get to the truth of the abduction.

CODY

Thanks, for your confidence.  I'll do what I have to do.

PRODUCER

We know you will, Cody.

(As the Producer leaves Cody, Cody has a weird feeling, knowing he was the one who abducted Abby on his Mother's, Tamara Wilson's, orders.)

(Reaching in his pocket for his cell, Cody's dials his Mother's number.)

TAMARA

Hello, Cody.

CODY

Mother, we have a problem?

TAMARA

What is it, son?

CODY

They took me off the Coralee murder case.

TAMARA

What?

CODY

I am now on the case of the Abby Levitt abduction.

TAMARA

Oh, my, son.  I'm so sorry.

CODY

What do I do now, Mother?  I am the one who abducted her on your orders.

TAMARA

I'll get back to on that.  I'll figure something out.  Don't worry, son.

CODY

I hope so.  My job could be at risk if they find out I abducted Abby Levitt.

TAMARA

They won't find out it was you.  I'll make sure of that.

CODY

I trust you Mother.  I trust you to fix this.  I'm not going to prison for this.

TAMARA

You won't dear.

(Cody hangs up with his Mother.)
