To My Son On His Eighteenth Birthday
The time has come to see you fly
Spread your wings and see where you go
I can't believe how time has flown
It seems just yesterday
You were just an infant
Sleeping soundly in your crib
Your first smile
First tooth
First steps
I cried when you went off to kindergarten
For I knew it was just the start
To see the world through others eyes
Not just your parents
Or grandparents
Aunts, uncles, cousins, and family
You'd be meeting new people
Making new friends
Getting to know teachers
As you got older
You struggled with finding yourself
Your interests and desires
Goals and ambitions
On your eighteenth birthday
Although you still will be in high school
May a whole new world open up
So all you dreams come true
For career choices
Family and children
You'll always be in my heart
As well as my support
So spread your wings
And soar as far as the winds may take you
To make all your dreams a reality
God bless you my son
I've cherished you since conception
Through pregnancy and birth
Every stage of your life
And I will continue to cherish you
As you mature through adulthood
Good luck my son
May all your dreams come true
