"Enjoy the journey and don’t forget that you started down this path because you love what you do" -wise words from actor Tom Ainsley

"

So, if you know that your life’s path is acting but your parents are set on you going to university and getting a “real degree” such as one in economics, what do you do? Well, if you are Tom Ainsley, the English actor, you simply sit them down and gently tell them that college and economics just weren’t what he had in mind. And that was that.

So civilized those Brits. And very understanding, apparently. So, Tom took a year off and auditioned across the UK. He didn’t feel quite ready to step into the entertainment industry just yet, however, so he decided that he should go through some formal training at a drama School before he began looking for work. Even though the training was extremely hard for him both physically and mentally, he realized that what made it truly difficult was that he was constantly comparing himself to other students and worrying about every little thing he did. Once he observed this he pulled back and started to focus on himself and only himself and that’s when things started to change " for the better. His acting improved, he worried less and he began enjoying himself and acting a great deal more.

In fact, he signed with an agency before even leaving drama school and was then cast in a West End play before the commercials and TV shows started pouring in.He appeared in the BBC production of The Royals for the first two seasons and was cast in the period drama Versailles, before he played alongside Cara Delevigne in Sky’s Timeless. He recently spent several months in Poland shooting the feature-length motion picture Safe Inside - a thriller about the power of the human brain and love. The film was directed by Renata Gabryjelska and has done extremely well on the film festival circuit having won awards at just about every stop.

Tom’s advice for aspiring actors is simple: Enjoy the journey and don’t forget that you started down this path because you love what you do. No one is going to believe in you as much as you believe in yourself - so start from there.
