Single Ladies Cover By FYST

"

Reading some interviews of the Aussie musician Harry Thynne we were struck not only by the originality of his music but also by his conspicuous intellect and astute philosophical observations of the music world. He has been drumming for two decades and graduated from the prestigious Australian Institute of Music in 2005. In other words, he has been around the block and this is not his first rodeo.

Harry splits his time between Australia and the United States and has played with quite a few heavy weights in the music industry and he has just released his first solo project called FYST. He was the writer and producer of FYST as well as the drummer.  We listened to his cover of Beyonce’s Single Ladies. Yes, we felt the same way you do when we saw the he covered one of her hits" but that feeling only lasted a couple of moments until we played it.

My first immediate impression when I heard the single was “Who is this guy and where has he been all these years?” His take on Single ladies was light years away from what we had expected. In fact, we felt that he didn’t even need to use the word “cover’ because the sounds, the beat, the rhythms, the voice and the general feeling the song evoked were 180˚ from Beyonce and her hit song. Harry has mastered building a unique performance on top of something classic and it really works. Listening to his cut made us feel that we were being transported to a distant planet where everyone was not only allowed to walk to the beat of their own drummer (no pun intended) but were expected to. It was a showcase in in the artistry of sound and demonstrated what can be done with it once you are finally given free rein and you break loose one hundred percent.

Harry Thynne has broken loose one thousand percent and his music will set new standards along with setting the bar a little higher for the next feeling and thinking musician decides to truly set his or her creative juices free. Mr. Thynne’s observation that “the old cycles that have dictated artists careers have been broken,” is easily proved with one listen to his music.
