The Amazing Work of Actress Giannina Esquivel

We saw the fine Costa Rican actress Giannina Esquivel’s acting reel the other day and we were pleasantly surprised. First of all she is quite beautiful �" we weren’t surprised at that, however. We were actually taken with her wonderful acting style and her perfect American accent. Perfect might not be a sufficient word to describe it though. Perhaps flawless would be more precise. And flawless could also be the proper adjective to define her immense acting talents.

 

Giannina is incredibly natural when she walks into a scene. It’s as though her character is the real thing and she has extinguished the true self of Giannina in order to fully transform into someone else. Of course, that’s what real acting is all about today: transformation and Giannina has mastered it every step of the way. We had heard that she has been acting and making films since she was ten years old and when we saw her reel we realized that only someone who had dedicated her whole life to acting could be as good as she is.

 

She is just like the women thespians she admires: Nicole Kidman, Jessica Chastain, Cate Blanchett, Keira Knightly and several others. They all have something in common: devotion to their craft. Giannina shares that with them and she has trained intensely to be where she is today and to become their equal in the acting profession. She studied acting at BADA, the British American Drama Academy at Oxford, England. She also attended the legendary New York Film Academy for acting and then went on to take the two-year acting intensive at the famed Stella Adler Academy of Acting in Los Angeles.

 

Just knowing that she went to all these great schools for acting tells us a great deal. One of the things it says about Giannina is that she doesn’t give up and that she will go to great lengths to seek out the best teachers so she can be the best actress she can be. She has certainly attained that and she has performed in some real classics like Shakespeare and Chekhov and she has been in countless films and commercials. Even though she currently lives and works in Los Angeles she went back to her home in Costa Rica to perform in a feature film made in Costa Rica by Costa Rican artists. The film, Insomnio, was premiered in the capital San Juan in October and received high praise from critics and audience alike. The film also helped usher a new era into the Country: it is now officially a film producing country and its film industry has now officially begun.
