Dublin, Ireland's Emer Kinsella

"

Born in Dublin, Ireland, Emer was just two and a half when she held her first classical violin. From there her life in music began. At Columbia College Chicago she earned an MFA in film scoring with a full scholarship. A composer and violinist classically trained, her credits include working alongside Johnny Klimek during the film Jungle, starring Daniel Radcliffe.

Some of her other credits include the Wachowskis’ Netflix show, Sense8, Disney’s Vampirina, and The Mechanic 2 Resurrection. She has worked with Danny Elfman at Studio Della Morte in Los Angeles.

Her original scores include films such as Real World, Stuck, Drown, Hysteria, Setting Son, Leaving Amy and the radio play Princess Vukobrankovics, most of which are award-winning projects.

Emer loves to experiment with texture, sound, and atmosphere; seeking to create something new by pushing it beyond its boundaries or combining genres, as she does with her film scoring and with her site-specific performance project, where she succeeded in bringing classical music to an urban audience by converting a 4-story building in Vienna into a magical space where music met architecture.

She has a keen interest in continuing these on-site projects, such as a VR Opera. She enjoys combining music with other art forms, like drama, dance, and film; with an eye on making art accessible to all.

One look at the award-winning projects she’s been involved in makes it obvious that her talent is recognized. In 2017 she has already been accepted as a winning composer into the Los Angeles live film score festival and into the IMRO/RTE film scoring program in Dublin where she will have her score recorded by the RTE Concert Orchestra in June. In 2016 she won two awards"one for The Manifest Video Score competition, and another from the Film Music Foundation.

Just as some photographers love manipulating images to achieve a certain effect, so Emer manipulates music to achieve a sound, a mood, a feeling. She tells a story with music the way poets tell a story with words, and has mastered the way to evoke tears, joy, fear, dread, love"those emotions that are difficult to verbalize yet are so easily expressed by music.

A nuanced performance requires a nuanced artist, and this artist’s name is Emer Kinsella.
