Behind The Lens With Photographer KayeeA Story by starpowerThe Incredible work and talent of KayeeOne of the amazing portraits by photographer Kayee Kayee’s photographs are truly refreshing. She is an artist who has extraordinary talents when it comes to photography and anything that has to do with how we see things. She takes the simplest, most common images that we see each day and turns them into high art with her camera. Kayee transforms simplicity into understated beauty that pulls the viewer in to a seemingly new and quite comfortable world that was abandoned long ago for fast-paced, thousand colored, meaningless kitsch. Kayee’s art stares back at you and enables you to feel the wonder of life and bolsters the underlying perception that we all may be connected in some strange but very acceptable way. Her unique artistic approach to photography has brought back the pleasure of the art itself. Her images actually give pleasure and an emotional nexus to the audience in a way that Paul Strand and Alfred Stieglitz did in the early part of the last century. Kayee is from China and moved to Hong Kong when she was 4 years old. Her first camera was a Canon QL 17 Range Finder, given to her by her grandfather. She loved the process of capturing images of her friends and family and then getting the film processed and the pictures printed on paper. She calls that process analog photography and it is still one of her favorite things to do. Nowadays, however, Kayee uses digital cameras for her photography. Kayee studied filmmaking in college but eventually switched to photography. She likes that she can do it all by herself without bringing a crew with her like she used to do when she made films. She does work with other people and artists, though. She collaborates with designers and stylists in the creation of fashion editorials and she truly enjoys that work. She has worked with many local Los Angeles designers and brands and Maria Dora is one of her favorites. Some of the brands she has shot are, Echo and Air, Zaid Affas, Trendy Butler and Toit Volant. Kayee studied photography at a college in Hong Kong, but received most of her main training at Art Center of Design in Pasadena. She has several projects coming up including working with an as yet un-named famous fashion brand (she says that she will tell us the name later), and a personal photo book about hunting. © 2017 starpower |
