Adrian Morales Ramos is apparently one of the busiest editors around today. He has edited so many films, documentaries and music videos that he is building up quite a reputation as the go to guy when it comes to finding a solid and creative editor. He edited that beautiful feature length motion picture Waves, which was shot in the Philippines and told the story of two former lovers who now have to struggle through many obstacles to keep their new and evolved relationship above water, so to speak. We saw the movie and loved it and even though the editing was quite nuanced and was seemingly invisible, it still pushed the story forward at a nice pace.

 

Obviously Adrian understands the language of film and he also completely comprehends the importance of editing on the timing of a movie. That fact is instantly recognizable in the poignant short film Meeting Gary. That was the story of a young boy who wanted to be a professional dancer but who was ignored by his parents who were too busy with their own conflicts to give love and understanding to their child. Great film, beautiful story, perfect editing. The timing of the scenes in this movie was reined in by Adrian´s work as he edited the film.

 

Another example of Adrian’s fine attention to detail as an editor is Celeste Buckingham’s music video Unpredictable. Brisk, perfectly timed cuts fill the short but packed piece, and Adrian, hopefully is very proud of how he contributed to it. Music videos are creative 3 to 4 minute little masterpieces �" if they are shot, acted and edited properly. There are literally thousands of choices that can be made when editing any project and Adrian always seems to be able to pick just the right times to make the cut and he always knows the perfect spot to join the next clip.

 

These above mentioned works are only three out of many, many more that Adrian has edited. Editing is an art form, no doubt, but it is also part of the collaborative effort that is part of filmmaking on a daily basis. The writer writes the script, the actors play the characters, the director guides the actors’ performances along with the overall feel and look of the film, the camera person shoots the scenes and the editor puts everything together to create the final piece. Adrian has one of the most creative and interesting jobs in the world.
