The many talents of Camera Operator Sharath Chandra SubramanyamA Story by starpowerFrom India to Hollywood- Sharath Chandra SubramanyamHow do people do it! How do they get into the movie business? Those questions have been asked about a billion times by us common folks and the reason we don’t have the answer within us is because we may not have those ultimate key ingredients inside of us that others have and that pushes them straight through the gates of Hollywood’s studios. We believe those very necessary ingredients are talent, drive and tenacity. Sharath Chandra (nicknamed 'Moon') is one of those “few” people who have so seamlessly moved forward against what appear to be great odds against them and ended up in the film industry doing exactly what they have always wanted to do. One of the obstacles, or seeming obstacles in Sharath’s case was distance. Sharath came all the way from India and ended up in Hollywood, which is arguably the center of the world’s film industry and which is almost 10,000 miles away. (Mumbai, which is in India, could also arguably be called that same name because of the great numbers of films it produces each year. But let’s get picky). Sharath obviously has talent,
because we have seen the resumé of films he has worked
on. The list is quite long but here are a few names to represent the many not
mentioned: He worked as camera operator and focus puller on some well done
features like, "SHAKE OF THE
WORLD,” "REGEN" and "BORDERLAND." He also
wrote, directed and edited tons of raved about short films including, Emotion, Romeo Versus Juliet, Operation Baby
and It’s All About Time, among
others.
Sharath has drive because he left India to go to the Philippines to earn a degree at the International Academy of Film & Television and then moved at Los Angeles to earn another degree at the legendary New York Film School. Apparently, this guy doesn’t take “No” for an answer and will travel to the ends of the Earth to get what he wants. That is drive! Tenacity, of course, goes hand in
hand with drive in the context of getting into the movie business. Some people
say you really can’t have one without the other and Sharath has both in spades.
He is a talented and creative camera operator who has made a reputation for himself
in the film business as a highly knowledgeable filmmaker, cameraman and a highly respected
producer/director.
