Karinna Greksa making her country proud!

"

We recently caught up with one of the dance world’s most talented and recognizable faces, Karinna Greksa. She was more than happy to share some her fondest dance roles, who inspired her growing up and also what exciting things she has coming up in the future. Here is what this amazing Aussie talent and (twin) had to say:

Please introduce yourself to the readers and how and when did you first get into performing?

My name is Karinna Greksa, I’m a professional dancer that has been dancing for 21 years. My mum decided to put me into dancing at the age of 3 as she was concerned that I was very shy and wanted to bring me out of my shell. Little did she know I was going to develop a love for performing and would go on to continue with it as my profession.

What inspired you to get into the entertainment industry?

I started dancing at one of Australia’s leading dance schools ‘Brent Street Studio’. Every day we would go to dancing and have the privilege of watching professional performers rehearse in the studios. It was a dream watching them rehearse for their up and coming shows and tours. It inspired me to keep dancing and performing as one day I wanted to make it my own career. If it wasn’t for seeing my idols in the studios at such a young age, I wouldn’t have got the inspiration to be where I am today.

What kind of training have you had, if any, what did you learn the most?

I have been training since the age of 3 in all styles of dance. Ballet training would be the style that I have learned the most from. It is the foundation of dance and the hardest in my opinion. It teaches you discipline, concentration, precision and grace. I also enjoy dancing in all different styles as it helps me to stay versatile and a well rounded performer.

What has been your favorite dance role to play so far?

My favorite dance role so far was dancing in the movie ‘The Great Gatsby’. I was cast by director Baz Luhrmann for the leading dance role as one half of “The Twins”. It was magical waking up every morning knowing that you are a part of a big Hollywood production. Not only was I lucky enough to be part of such an amazing film, but I got to share it with my twin sister Kahlia, that made it extra special.

What has been one of the most exciting achievements of your career so far?

One the most exciting achievements of my career so far would have to be traveling to India to film Bollywood movie ‘Doom 3’, It was my first job out of Australia. It was an incredible experience traveling to India and being able to call it work. I was honored to dance with one of India’s top stars Aamir Khan. Being able to travel the world for work and dancing with stars such as Aamir Khan has been a dream come true.

What projects do you have coming up?

I have a few exciting projects come up at the moment. Most recently I was cast in a campaign for a top shoe company. They wanted to incorporate movement to bring their shoes alive, so it will be great to work with dance movement for a print campaign as this is something that I have not done before.

Who would you most like to work with and why?

I have worked with incredible industry professionals all at the top of their field, but in saying that, I have yet to work with choreographer Ryan Heffington. Ryan choreographed Sia’s famous music video ‘Chandelier’. He has such an incredible imagination and he moves in ways that no one else does. He is a massive inspiration to me and working with him would be an honor.

What are your plans for the future?

My plan for the future is to be cast in a Cirque du Soleil show. It has been a dream and inspiration of mine since the age of 13. I am currently on their casting books after a very intense 3 day audition. They accepted 10 girls and i was lucky enough to be part of the select few.

What is your advice to aspiring performers?

My advice for aspiring performers is to never give up. Hard work does pay off. You get what you put in and that determines how successful you will be. Not everything comes easy in life especially in the field of dance as it is always evolving so you need to evolve with it and stay relevant.
