What happens to little girls who are passionate and creative and who organize entertainment, performances and stage shows for her friends and family? Good question " what does happen to them? They grow up to be movie producers. Take Anna Skrypka, for instance, that’s what she used to do when she was a young kid in Ukraine. Her mind was constantly thinking of new ways to put on plays or ways to entertain people.

 

Apparently, she liked doing that so much that when she was old enough she got into TV hosting and started producing big events in her city of Kharkiv, Ukraine. Like other talented producers (future and current) Anna is also a great negotiator. While producing a famous Ukraine beauty pageant she got the prestigious Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts to donate a full scholarship to the winner of the contest! Who can do that in their early twenties? That was a rhetorical question, which didn’t require an answer, but the answer would be: Not many people!

 

After receiving several degrees, let me re-phrase that: after working very hard and earning several degrees including a PHD in Social Sciences, Anna hopped a plane and landed in New York City where she earned (there I said it again) a Master of Fine Arts degree in filmmaking from the New York Film Academy. Wow! Just writing about all this work and achievement of goals is getting me tired.

 

Let’s jump to the present because there are just too many projects like the innumerable short films and feature-length movies she’s produced and I’m still exhausted from talking about Anna getting all those university degrees. So, the present is a wonderful combination of producing, forming her own production company and co-creating and producing one of the best web series of the year. It’s called Behind the Blinds AKA Filmmaking 101 and when you see it, besides all the laughs and enjoyment you’re going to get out of it, you’re also going to instantly recognize the professionalism in every aspect of this great series. It something every filmmaker wishes he or she would have thought of and produced. These two guys, who happen to be Eastern European mobsters, decide to become movie producers in Hollywood. Of course, they bungle everything because they don’t know what they’re doing and because they also hire other inexperienced people to help them with their show. If you can’t see anything else this year " see Behind the Blinds. You owe it to yourself to check out at least one of the great things that that creative girl from Ukraine grew up to do.
