Where would the film world be without Jake Wilkens?A Story by starpowerThe talented and sharp filmmaker Jake WilkensWhere would be without Jake Wilkens? Good question! Ever since Jake arrived from Canada, the motion picture industry has been saved from becoming a stagnant art form. Jake has taken the film business by the horns and turned it upside down the way it should be, or at least the way it was meant to be. Thank you, Jake Wilkens, for all that you have done and will do. Now, we may be singing his praise just a little too much here. So it’s necessary to mention that Jake is really just a very nice person, who takes his work seriously and who is actually quite humble, so we’ll tone it down just a tad. Jake started out in Canada, as many successful filmmakers have, and will continue to do. We’ve always said that the nicest people come from Canada " they are just so civilized up there. Well, anyway, Jake came from Toronto, sort of like a smaller, friendlier NYC, and one day, he decided to get into the film business. Since they don’t produce many movies up there in the snow, they don’t call it the Great WHITE North for nothing, Jake made the fateful decision to come all the way down to sunny California and to become a camera operator and to generally just learn how to make films. It takes a lot of courage to pack up and move all the way across the country, to realms unknown, just for a chance to follow your dream. But, as all who are fans of a good adventure film know, the path of dreams is the only path worthy of your time. And what an adventure that would have been! However, the reality is that Jake does work hard and he does take his work seriously. He has been a camera operator on a lot of projects like commercials for giant internet companies, music videos for youtube sensations, and most recently, for a web series produced, starred in and directed by a 2 time Emmy Winner. Jake has also completed an in-depth program in Entertainment Studies at UCLA. He is a hands-on guy who will do anything it takes to help complete a film. In the short time he has been in the film industry, Jake has worked as a camera operator, cinematographer, art director and gaffer. And although he loves working in those departments,, he has branched out a bit and wrote, produced and co-directed Wanderer, with AMC actor Mark O’Brien. Wanderer is a short film that has been warmly received and highly praised at four international film festivals. The thing to take away here, is that Jake works hard, he does push himself towards his aspirations, however unreachable they may seem, and that seems to be a recipe for success. We can’t wait to see what he does next. © 2016 starpower |
