Actress and role model Davina ColeA Story by starpowerNot only is Davina Cole a talented actress, she also wants to use her occupation to inspire and help others! Some actors are always trying to improve their craft and so they continually study the art of acting and will take classes to keep them and their talent on their toes. These actors are the ones that never take the business for granted and never become complacent. Davina Cole is an actress who fits very comfortably in this category of smart and intelligent thespians. Smart, because she realizes that things change from one day to the next and that she can’t afford to be complacent. She knows that she could be replaced in a film in a heartbeat or that her character could be written out of the play or TV series. Intelligent, because she is doing something about it. She takes acting classes between movie, play and TV jobs just to keep her mentally sharp and to challenge her. When Davina was a young girl in England, she used to watch old movies on TV with her dad. She got hooked on all the great films, black and white and color ones, along with the glamorous and very talented actresses that became legendary in the motion picture industry. Names such as Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe inspired her to become an actress and to never give up no matter what is thrown in her way. She set her sights on the goal of being an actress when she was 13 and has never looked back or doubted her decision. Her favorite role so far has been that of Delilah, in the play 1867. That character was a strong woman and that’s just the kind of parts that Davina is drawn to. That character, by the way, was based on the life of Madame CJ Walker, who was America’s first black female millionaire. Speaking of strong women, Davina is pretty strong herself, and obviously, loaded with talent and acting skills. She was nominated for the Best Actress award at the International One Man Show Solo Festival in the UK in 2014. Here’s the clincher: Davina not only starred in the production, but she wrote the play too. Her notable achievement did not go unnoticed; she was invited to participate in the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival and was selected as a finalist. Davina has been in countless plays and films and she can also sing, dance (jazz, contemporary and street) play tennis and basketball and she kicks butt with her stage combat skills. She also has a flare for accents and can do American, London, Cockney, Caribbean, South African and many more. © 2016 starpower |
