STAR OF 'THE GUVNORS' ROCHELLE NEILA Story by starpowerThe beautiful, elegant and talented Miss Rochelle NeilWhat a thrill to meet with the beautiful actress Rochelle Neil. I had heard a great deal about her and saw her in the feature film “The Guvnors” last year. Rochelle’s understated performance was a huge highlight in a predominately all male cast. I knew that if I ever got to London I would simply have to look her up and interview her. Once in England, Rochelle was gracious enough to take my call and we met at a coffee house near her flat in London. We smiled, introduced ourselves, shook hands and sat down for one of the most pleasant thirty minutes I’ve spent in years. Besides talking about her remarkable range of acting credits, including feature films, short films and stage appearances, I found Rochelle to be a person of great poise and intelligence. She’s witty, sharp and refreshingly grounded. I shouldn’t have been surprised at that because, that’s exactly how I felt when I saw her on the big screen in “The Guvnors.” She played the devious young mother of the lead character in flashbacks. Considering the size of the role Rochelle was not only impressive in that film, she stood out and was noticed by everyone, even the critics, who are generally hard to please. Rochelle Neil has played an impressive amount of roles in just about every medium. Having briefly glanced over her resume singing and dancing also seem to be a natural form of expression for her. I ask if she’d ever considered pursuing a different career, in music perhaps. “I love music and yeah, I’m always thrilled when I get to learn a new skill or do something people aren’t aware I’m fully trained in but if I had to choose my real passion and first love is acting,” she explained in her cool London accent. We laugh as she is quick to tell me how she’s spent so much time playing Americans in her career she sometimes feels funny when she has to go back to her own accent. Her voice is gentle but it can become sultry or authoritative if need be and she met all my questions with what I imagine to be an innately mischievous humor. Rochelle is definitely one of those people you’d want to be friends with. Good friends at that. Just to name a few things she’s done would take up too much space for this writing but Rochelle continues to carve out an impressive career for herself. She has just been announced as the leading lady in, the award-winning director, Odilon Rocha’s next feature film, The Hand of The Creator. I for one can’t wait to see her in action again.
