An Aussie actress of many talents, Esther EdenA Story by starpowerAn actress of extraordinary talents, performer Esther EdenIf you haven’t heard of Esther Eden by this time, you must not be paying very good attention. At the very impressionable age of just eight years old, Esther and her family moved to Israel from Australia, where her interest in acting grew with drama lessons after school. By the age of fourteen, she had moved back to Sydney, Australia where she continued acting, taking workshops at the National Institute of Dramatic Art and was also accepted into the McDonald College of Performing Arts, which boasts alumni including singer Natalie Imbruglia, model Sarah Murdoch and actors Rhys Wakefield, Kip Gamblin and Sophie Lowe. I guess it's safe to say, from there a star was indeed born. After graduating from the McDonald College of performing Arts, Esther auditioned and gained entry into Screenwise, a screen acting school in Sydney Australia run by Logie nominated actress Denise Roberts. Esther Eden moved to London after meeting an English theatrical agent at her Screenwise graduation showcase who asked to represent her if she moved to London. Having a love of travel, Esther jumped at the chance to continue her career abroad. On arriving in London, she quickly gained roles in local film productions, including Piano, a short film about a lesbian relationship. Her portrayal of Natalie's subtle angst and despair in the film contributed to the film's acceptance in to the Shortcutz London film festival. In 2011, Esther decided to dabble with modeling and did a retro photo shoot for famed photographer Nick Dolding which was very successful that it was then chosen to be used as part of a Lighter Life television ad campaign. In 2012, Esther then successfully auditioned for a podcast named The 313 show, which is an online comedy show. She still works with them on a regular basis as a leading actor, voicing sketches and on occasion co-hosting an episode. She has even started performing sketches with them in live shows and was just last year at The Kingston Comedy Festival. Esther's love for voice over work grew and was later in that year cast in a leading role in an audio sitcom Quiz Masters which reached high places in the iTunes podcast and comedy charts. Her ever-growing list of accomplishments does not stop there. In 2013, Esther Eden took a step back into theater, performing in acclaimed Shakespearean comedy The Comedy of Errors, which was performed in Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens as part of the St. George's Day Festival, who is the patron Saint of England and which also coincided with Shakespeare's anniversary which made the performance for her all the more special. Later in the year, she was also lucky enough to contrast the comedy with a Shakespearean tragedy, infamously known as Macbeth, which was set in contemporary England in the banking world alluding to the financial crisis of 2008 and the witches were changed to journalists. Esther considers herself lucky to have been cast in the production at all as she couldn't make the live auditions. She was so keen to take part that she self taped an audition for director Nick Hastings on the morning she was flying to visit her family in Australia. A few weeks later she received an email from the director, who later disclosed that he watched Esther's audition tape while on his honeymoon and was completely blown away by her performance, asking her to take on the role of Hecate, who in this production becomes the head of the 'witches', now journalists, as the Editor in Chief infiltrating the Macbeth household and who is the one responsible for murdering Banquo. Esther was delighted to be offered with such a unique take on this prominent role that she had a meeting with Nick Hastings the day she arrived back to London. She relished the role, basing the character of Hecate on Rebekah Brooks from the News of The World phone hacking scandal. Her hard work paid off and contributed to the production's sold out three-week run at the Cockpit Theatre and received an enormous amount of four and five star reviews. All of this ties in nicely as Esther has recently been asked to play Lady Macbeth for a new feature film of Macbeth directed by fellow The 313 Show actor Colin Swinn. A role Esther has always dreamed of playing. Esther Eden loves being involved in all aspects of the creative process and is as involved off screen as she is on. Esther says that in conjunction to working on the productions that she's already cast in, she not only plans on continuing to work on the craft of acting as a whole, recently taking up the Meisner Technique, but she is also developing her very own projects. One of her newest endeavors is developing her own web series. Esther Eden believes that ''to go after one's dreams, you must be prepared to take a leap of faith and sacrifice your heart and soul - as that is where you will find your artistic self most creatively fulfilled''. © 2015 starpower |
