The incomparable work of filmmaker Egor PovolotskiyA Story by starpowerThe incredibly talented Egor Povolotskiy and his road to making filmsWhen it comes to camera work, few can compare to the work of Egor Povolotskiy. Originally from Russia, working as a photographer and second unit DP, Egor got his shot shooting a commercial for the Russian Association of Bikers. Pretty awesome first project. This would no doubt be his catapult into the industry in more ways than just one. Around 4 years ago the opportunity presented itself The Director of the Russian Association of Bikers offered me to come to the set and take some pictures for a film he was involved in. Needless to say this was his “Golden Ticket” into life behind the lens.
Egor became very Inspired by the work of Sven Nykvist from early on, but then transitioned as most do, to the works of Roger Deakins. Povolotskiy called Deakins’s approach to cinematography “just incredible”. He was a fan of the “very simple and efficient lighting setups”. He received his first Master’s degree at MEPHI (Moscow Engineering and Physics Institute) as Artificial Intelligence specialist. As if that wasn’t enough, in 2014 he received his second Masters at New York Film Academy. This time for a Master of Fine Arts in Cinematography.
Povolotskiy has a
combined 7 years of experience under his belt in a variety of film and
photography related areas, including photojournalism, wedding photography, and
celebrity portrait photography. Nothing
short of the “real deal”, Egor has logged not only 3+
years of working in the Russian movie industry as a second unit DP, and set
photographer, but his cinematography skills are considered by most to be
necessary to support the story in a better way. Furthermore his
short film “We Are Enemies” received three wins (Rochester Int Film
Festival, Voya Film Festival) and 4 nominations.
Wish such
achievements and more already under his belt, Povolostskiy looks to further
build upon his success here in the states, even more. © 2015 starpower |
