A Sneak-Peek into the Life of Jennifer Matichuk

The talented Miss Jennifer Matichuk

 

Joining the growing breed of smart and new-age filmmakers is Jennifer Matichuk. Growing up in St. Albert, Alberta in Canada, Jennifer’s first love was ice hockey. She began playing at a very young age and quickly excelled in the sport while reaching the highest levels. By high school, she was good enough to be recruited by top colleges in the United States to play and attend. She jumped at the offer by Yale University and took off in the fall of 2009.

 

At Yale, Jen started exploring her other passions. She was pursuing a major in Film Studies and received the ISA to study Modern British Theatre and British Landscape Art through the Yale-in-London program in the summer of 2010. She counts this as the best decision she ever made after entering Yale. It was here in London that she discovered her true career goals. With a new found love for theatre, Jen decided to fully immerse herself in the renowned Yale theater world that has produced greats such as Edward Norton, Claire Danes, Meryl Streep, and Lupita Nyong’o , to name a few. She quickly established herself as a prominent technical director and set designer and worked on numerous professional productions, all the while balancing a 35 hr/week Ice Hockey schedule and her Film Studies major requirements. Film Studies required her to delve deep into the critical film world, as well as learn many aspects of production. During her film studies time she wrote a feature length screenplay as her thesis and wrote, directed, and shot many short films.

 

After graduating, Jennifer moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film. She settled on a job with Rhett & Link, inc. as the Social Media Manager, but knew that she would have to work hard to make herself a solid career in the industry. Since beginning work at Rhett & Link, she has doubled their online Social Media presence through videos, pictures, interaction, comedy, and outreach. She has collaborated with Google and YouTube to fully understand the way entertainment is transitioning to the digital world and how she can take advantage of that aspect with the work happening in the Rhett & Link studios. On the side, she is heavily involved in Crossfit at Brick Crossfit in West Hollywood, attending classes every morning and Olympic lifting in the evening. She also works on film, music video, and other shoots every chance she gets. She has been Assistant Director, Assistant Camera, Set Dresser, Editor and Production Assistant on many prominent shoots and has more lined up. She understands the importance of marketing and online presence as well as the production side of projects, and is thus making her way up in the industry.
