Introducing George AsenovA Story by starpowerBulgaria's own George Asenov- One talented actor!
George
Asenov is an extremely gifted actor born in Sofia, Bulgaria. From childhood,
acting came to him naturally. George’s biggest inspirations growing up were
Anthony Hopkins, Al Pacino, Emma Thompson, Meryl Streep, and Gary Oldman. He
was accepted into Bulgaria’s best university for the arts, the National Academy
Of Theatre and Film Art in Sofia, Bulgaria, after his first audition.
After
graduating from the National Academy Of Theatre and Film Art, George was
selected for a leading role in the play “Zoo Story” by Edward Albee. Following
the production of “Zoo Story”, George went on to play starring roles in a long
list of plays including “The Gods” directed by GaroAshikyan, “Cloud Heaven”
directed by BogdanPetkanin, “Antigone” directed by VeselinRankov, and “Speaking
in Tongues” directed by VeselinRankov. George has wowed audiences across
Bulgaria with his performances at some of the country’s most prestigious
theatres including the National Satric Theatre, Nikolai Binev Theatre, Mladejki
Theatre, Nafta theatre, and many others. George also starred in the film “Keep
Walking” which was voted the number one film by the National Academy Of Theatre
and Film Art. In the film, George stars as a husband who, along with his wife,
is attacked by a local serial killer who invades their home. George’s portrayal
of his character who vigorously fights back until finally breaking free and
saving his wife, was incredible.
After
reaching the pinnacle of success in Bulgaria, George headed for Los Angles
where he further immersed himself in his craft through a two-year program at
the iconic Stella Adler Academy of Acting.
During his time in LA, George starred in a well-reviewed production of
“Waiting for Lefty”, which was directed by Academy-award winner Milton Justice,
as well as the play “Bengal Tiger at the Bagdad Zoo”, which was directed by
Bonnie McNeil. George’s roles up until now have all been uniquely different
from one another, a feature that has surely put his craft to the test, but has
also shown his magnificent range as an actor. He cites the role of ‘Musa’ in “Bengal
Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo” as one of his favorites due to the fact that it
required him not only speak with an Arabic accent, but to learn a little bit of
the language as well.
Although
he has made a name for himself and an international actor, George hopes to
continue to create new and exciting characters, and to direct some of his own
plays in the near future.
