Asier Kintana in the Charlie Chaplin play "Slices of Life"A Story by starpowerSpanish actor- The talented and intelligent, Asier Kintana
In only seven years, Asier Kintana has positioned himself as a reference for many artists and as one of the most important actors in Spain. He has worked on TV films (Sin tetas no hay paraiso, Supercharlie), theater (Looking For Hilary, La Katarsis del tomatazo) and the renowned short acclaimed (Hypocrisy)(link below) which has received very positive reviews in Los Angeles among others. One by Dave A.Nelson from NYFA Universal Studios, Los Angeles, CA (link below) This great Spanish performer, with his acting, musical talent and undeniable attractiveness, is back on stage in "Slices of Life" under Susan Batson´s direction and in a film by Cuban director, Ricardo Bacallao, who is based in New York.. "I like gray characters, neither black nor white. People are made of good and not so good parts. We're not simple, we are complex, our behavior comes from an infinity of childhood factors such as education, parents, environment, etc. that settles in our unconscious. This is the point from which the human being operates. And it is precisely this complexity that appeals to me and gives me the opportunity to explore and exploit as an actor in such roles. When choosing a project, I just follow my instincts" says Asier Kintana. "Slices of Life " A -One man Show- about, nothing more and nothing less than, Charlie Chaplin´s life premieres in May and will present Asier as an actor in off Broadway boards. It portraits the human soul of maybe the most amazing and beloved star in film history. His pain, his creativity, his conflicts and his childhood are some of the topics touched by Asier´s work, where he goes through a full range of emotions and human conflicts . "I´m really excited about this project with Susan Batson, who I respect and admire not only as a director, but also as an exceptional driver of the human soul. The script, which I wrote in collaboration with Susan, tries to show Charlie Chaplin´s character´s complexity. Chaplin hardly knew his father, was abandoned by his mother when he was 8 years old to enter a mental hospital and had to survive by himself in the streets of Victorian London". What makes this project different from any other related to Chaplin is that it goes beyond his unusual walking and other movements of the genius, it´s about his creative process. Where does his creativity come from to create or how being abandoned as a child affected him. That's what makes the work interesting, seeing the "intimacy of the character" expressed Asier. This is the first time Asier will perform on the stage in the U.S. and under the direction of Susan Batson. Previously he has worked with important directors in Spain such as Steve Ferrer -nowadays in full apotheosis with the play Toc -Toc- in the play "Buscando a Hilary” (Looking for Hilary) where he shared the stage with Blanca Marsillach, which has shared set with actors like Javier Barden or Christopher Lambert. "I'm always nervous at the beginning of any project, because I don´t know what is going to happen, but Susan is wise -I would say magical- and she leads you into the right direction when creating the character, without leaving room for nerves... and "voila" it just happens.
Asier who grew up in the north of Spain (Basque Country ) and lived in Madrid where he studied drama and acquired the great reputation that today holds in his country. He is now a resident of NYC -in his own words- as if he had been born in the big Apple. In 2003 he made his acting debut in the prestigious play " La Katarsis del Tomatazo”, on TV as a soldier for a commercial and in a TV show "Sin Tetas no hay paraiso". His film debut was with the short film "Suerte” (Lucky). For more about Asier Kintana, go to: Links © 2014 starpower |
