The talented and gifted Karla Lopez!A Story by starpowerProduction Coordinator- Karla Lopez!
Very few people are as gifted in production as Karla Lopez Mora. Considered one of the most difficult tasks in the entertainment industry, Lopez has been handling production and coordination work with ease and has been one of the major forces behind the successful production of many series and short films. Her latest production effort is ‘Reluctantly Healthy’ where she is working as a Field Producer and Production Coordinator. She has previously worked for Principato-Young Entertainment and has been a part of numerous series created by them. These productions include the likes of ‘Tiny Commando’, ‘Anthony Eats America’, ‘Sketchy’, ‘Tribute’ and ‘Watsky’s Releasing an Album’. She has done all this work in 2013 itself, which provides testimony to the fact that she is hard working, creative, organized and has excellent management qualities. We chatted with her about her experience as a Production Coordinator in Hollywood and here is what she had to say: Can you tell us exactly what you do as a Web Series Coordinator? Well, you work closely with the producers and directors and make sure everything is ready to go when they roll the camera. This includes helping with casting, location scouting, coordinating with all the departments to make sure they have everything they need for the shoot, dealing with schedule issues, renting equipment, opening accounts in prop houses, etc. It is very challenging because you are dealing with different departments at the same time and they depend on you to be able to do their work. What is the most rewarding part about being a coordinator? When you get to see the final product and you know that you contributed to it, maybe not in a creative way but helping put the pieces together so those who need to be creative have all the elements to do it. What is the most challenging thing about your work? Being able to get everything done on time, especially because you depend on others to get things done so it isn’t as easy as you solving something, you need to learn to work with others, learn how to coordinate things and foresee whatever necessities the production will have. You need to be one step ahead, once you start shooting you don’t have much time to solve any problems that come along, so you need to be able to anticipate what will be a problem and come up with a solution before, if not, it will cost the production money and you always want to avoid that. Last, what has been your favorite project and why? Whoa, that is tough to question! I like learning new things and each project you work on, you have different people, different personalities, different ways of working, therefore you truly learn something new every time. Every project also has moments when there is a big challenge to overcome and the stress levels rise but the more you work, you understand what is the best way to approach things and also you learn the best attitude to tackle those issues, which don’t get me wrong, sometimes it’s a real challenge, but you do it because you love your job and you become better problem solver. If you want to know more about this native Costa Rican, here are other projects she has worked on: ‘We Need Help’, ‘How To Bake It In Hollywood’, ‘Let’s Talk About Love’, ‘All the Wrong Notes’, ‘Hear Me Out’ and ‘Game Shop’. Karla also gained significant experience in various productions in Costa Rica. The most notable of them was 2010's ‘La Erre TV’, ‘Noticias 36’ in 2009 and ‘Fusion Juvenil’ in 2009. She is currently a Field Producer and Production Coordinator at Principato-Young Entertainment in Beverly Hills, where she is gaining a lot of notoriety for her amazing work. Karla is a very talented young lady with a huge future in the world of entertainment. © 2013 starpower |
