Eternal

Eternal

A Poem by Starbound25
"

for my husband

"
I remember asking destiny
to send you to me
my life, my love, my soulmate
if there was such a thing
and the next day there you were
wrinkled shirt, unshaven face
and a laugh that could stop a truck
you were in the last place
I would have looked
standing right in front of me
you wanted so badly for me
to see how you and I were
meant to be
within hours of our first
"unofficial" date my heart knew
I would have run away to Vegas
with you if you had asked
12 months later we stood
before God and family and friends
and we bound ourselves together
till death do us part
we were supposed to grow old together
sit on a porch in our rocking chairs
holding our arthritic hands together
and watching the sunset in our
golden years
but our fairy tale was cut short
with a most dramatic ending
I long for you and ache for you
and cry for you
and miss you every second
YOU were the light by which
I guided MY life
without you there is only
darkness
yet the flame from my love
burns eternal

very poignant, I haven't lost my soulmate, but i did lose a child, and while that's not the same thing, it is in a different way. I am sorry for your loss, but your writing also stands, a beacon, shining light to the rest of us. Thank you for sharing.

This is a truly moving poem. I am reminded of the addage "better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all." I am myself still searching for my soulmate. My sympathy goes out for you.

Sometimes the memories of love shared can keep you going on and not drown in sorrow. Experiencing pain such as a deep loss is difficult as you've shown in this drop. Many (such as myself) can relate. I hope you are on the road to healing
