Lost in the Woods

Lost in the Woods

A Poem by AMetaphoricalSoul

There are holes in the ceiling

Cracks in the stone

Dirty water leaking through

Drip, drip, drip

Leaving stains on the carpet

The rooms are tilting

Breaking dishes and picture frames

Now we eat off the floor

And try to piece together shattered memories

But careful

The glass is sharp

One tiny cut is all it takes

Drip, drip, drip

Blood has ruined the sheets

Try to wash them with our tears

But it just won't come out

No matter how hard we scrub

Or how much we cry

Or sweat uncontrollably

Can't turn the heat down

The thermostat is broken

And the power's gone out

There's a blown fuse

But the lights still flicker sporadically

Try to light the candles

But the matches have all mysteriously burnt out

And we've accidentally spilled all the lighter fluid

Drip, drip, drip

We can pour gasoline in the fireplace

But it still won't start without a spark

And no wood to burn

Look outside

The forest is gone

The trees have been chopped down and used up

And yet we're still lost in the woods

But at least we're not alone
