The Inheritance

The Inheritance

A Poem by AMetaphoricalSoul

I would like to thank you for making me who I am
You have modeled me into a fully realized mental case
Providing me with your legacy of trauma
Letting me inherit your pain
Teaching me your faults
Breeding your torment into me
I am the heir to your throne of flaws
Next in line to pass on the grief you’ve bestowed upon me
A successor to your suffering
Molding it to suit my personal derangement
Your defective nurturance of my nature
Generating my own version of dysfunction
Now mine to impart to those who follow after me
Alleviating these burdens I do not understand
Pulling others down to drown along with me
Choking on my refined misery
Processed and honed to endure alone
To bury me beneath my shoddy development
