Ajood

Ajood

A Poem by Leo
"

Reuniting after 10 years of no contact w/ a girl called Ajood that I had the biggest crush on in my life during highschool..last we met was yr 2000 and I wrote this poem for her when I saw her in 2010

"

Ajood

A.. Jay.. O.. O.. Dee

Nostalgic but can never O'Dee

I’ll tell you of a true story a decade old

But you have to promise me to stay on board

Nervous as I recall the details of the past unveiled

Taken by her bravura ambience I felt prevailed

Even though I was illustrious amongst ordinary schoolgirls

After meeting her I will tell you she was simply not one of those girls

All I know I should have called her Violette

Briefly met and chiefly silhouette but how can I ever forget

Oh I can write and write to you describing her delicate beauty

The lips the eyes ask me!..I didn’t capture her shadow oh no!..

But I snatched her photo out of deliberate duty!

I know Hemingway you missed out on this

The soul illuminator she was and her sugar caned lips

You should have taken red bull my friend to witness with me this bliss

Most importantly even though years went by yet her name in my heart still exists

World turmoil with an offspring of five major warfare since the year 2000 topped with

The 21st century’s sarcasm of the 2009 swine flu and yet no sign from her end!

Now everybody wants to know how the story ends

Finally found her by twist of fate through cyberspace blend

Overwhelmed and numb..The girl is married..But I must portend so as not to impend!

Ajood was her name and married she became with the last two letters of her name ODee

Nostalgic indeed but now you know why I can never O'Dee

I just told you a true story a decade old

But you already made your promise to stay on board !

 *O'Dee: overdose

Author's Note

Leo
Note: Ajood was as beautiful as Jennifer Connelly. Out of respect for her I'm not posting her photo but her look-alike instead so you could paint the picture. During highschool I asked Ajood to be my prom date and she declined my offer. I then left overseas and for 10 years she occupied my mind. All these years I wondered to myself if she liked me at least as much as I liked her but never had my closure. Then couple months before returning home I framed her photo and placed it on my desk, one I snatched from highscool. I arrived home and found her at last on fb (back then we had myspace and never occurred to me to check fb haha). I got my closure after 10 years, she said she did like me alot. She also said she would've approved to be my prom date had I not pushed. But she was married!

This was very telling. I could sense that it was deeply personal. It really got at the heart of longing, and love, and lost closure. Very nice.

Glad you liked it, thanks for your feedback!
I like the honesty and transparency of this piece. The authors note make it even more surreal. I can relate to this piece. And for years I have often wondered how to really paint and immortalize those early days. An encounter just like yours made me have the inspiration to penned that early experience which finally brought closure to all those many unsolved mysteries and questions ... Please check out my piece " Closure "

Thank you Neil for the feedback
"Stay on Board" I did! With fascination I read this 'rollick'n" story.....so creative and unique. A poignant story of what could have been "your first love"! So glad she returned your affection for her......but alas it was not to be. BRAVO.....I liked this very much! (Top marks!)
