Two Heartbeats Become OneA Poem by Stacy Hessler
Two heartbeats become one,
As they lay in wait for the rising sun. As dawn approaches them, they turn to one another, Whispering their "I love you's". Wishing it wasn't true. Why does this have to end? The love they worked so hard to mend. Failing to realize nothing can last forever, All they want is to stay together. There is no promise of tomorrow, Never wanting to feel the sorrow. She has one more day to live, All her love she wants to give. Not wanting him to remember her this way, So frail and ill. Not realizing he loves her still. Unable to fathom why he cares so much. He still looks at her like he did then, Wanting to hold her every second he can. Wishing time would stop to give them more time, Praying God will change His mind. Hoping he does not lose his precious angel, Not ever wanting to feel that grief. He nods off for an hour or two, When he wakes his time is through. His angel has passed away, Never did he cry like he did that day. Knowing now again he must start, Not wanting anyone for she was his heart. Although she is gone he pulls her body close, To drift off again and dream of her ghost. She comes to him within that sleep, To tell him to not give into defeat. For him to live on and keep her memory strong, In time they will return to one another it won't be long. © 2008 Stacy HesslerReviews
