Bipolar

Bipolar

A Poem by StacyPerry

There are times we harvest anger,
It takes over and we have no control
I personally think it's an entity unto itself....would you concur??
It takes our heart and seeps into our soul
We react with uncontrollable emotions,
Perhaps lashing out at another in our range
Never considering any of the other notions,
I actually find the emotion of anger rather strange
There are times we hold onto someone we love,
Almost a strangle or a smother
We place them on a pedestal so high above,
They look down upon all the others
We feel like they are our lively hood at times,
That we just can't live without their love as it is a must
We feel that our hearts with theirs shall bind,
Then we love them forever as they leave us
Oh, wait, that leaves me with the emotion of sadness,
This one is truly weird
Another one that holds us to unrest,
It can take us and drag us down if we cared
I hold all of the mentioned above,
Yes, correct, I hold all three
I prefer the one that is love,
I am Bipolar amazingly.

recently this condition has had a lot of exposure, due to a couple of celebrities being diagnosed and being covered in popular soaps. You have showed a compassionate approach and this works really well..I struggled a little bit with the flow but in the second half it got into it stride really well. I commend you for covering this subject so eloquently.

Great job on writing in such a compassionate nature on such a painful topic to those who are touched by this condition.

As one who suffers from bi-polar I think this explores the negative points without the positive. In my manic phases I might produce huge quantities of work; poetry, art, music etc. I can go three days with hardly any sleep and be the happiest, most conversational person one could ever hope to meet. In a depressive phase I might be withdrawn and suspicious, near suicidal and quiet. The rage, strangely enough, usually accompanies my manic phase when I have little tolerance for those who can't keep up with my energy surge. We suffer from guilt caused by another self that is not us. Or in time we become used to not allowing ourselves to be held accountable and say screw the world, I didn't ask for this, I don't want it and if anyone doesn't like it, let them come try to do something about it. I get tired. Tired of trying to explain and justify my actions so I say to hell with the world, I have to look after me because nobody else will. But I never put others on a pedestal. I'm a great believer in equality and I think everyone is dirt. Now one pile of dirt cannot say to another, "I am better dirt than you!" but if it is indeed better soil, it will be made evident in the things which grow there and the fruits it brings forth. Anyone who has ever taken large amounts of steroids can relate to the manic phase of bi-polar because that is sort of what it is like, at least for me. I was on prednisone once for ten days and it almost killed me in withdrawal. Now imagine that with NO drugs. And that is sort of like my bi-polar. But every case is different I understand. But I do understand.
