Rare Commodity

Rare Commodity

A Poem by StacyPerry
"

Everyone should be so lucky to have located their Soul Mate at least in this life time.

"
It's amazing how much I love you,
Even in times of pain it never goes away
I could be manic or down right blue,
Yet you've stuck it out with me to this very day
There are a lot of words out there for what you have done,
A love like no other is what we have to date
The game began a long time ago and I feel as if I have won,
Within it the prize, after 35 years, was finally locating my Soul Mate
It's surreal the feelings that are within my heart,
Almost a love that had begun with a sin
We are two people of the same part,
Lovers, Friends and Confidants are what we have been
Now the time comes where we have to see if our love can be enough,
There's many "What If's" that are rolling through your mind
I know that this must be beyond very tough,
To decide if we stay together or if you leave me behind
No matter what your choice ends up being,
I'll always hold the memories dear
Sometimes we have to look through the other persons eyes to be seeing,
That pure love is something we have and it is a commodity that is very rare.

Love is not about possessing the person you fancy the most, rather it's about holding onto the memories of the time you spent with your love and keep those memories in your heart: a very good message this piece of writing leaves.

Excerpt from my poem "Love Affair"
"Close to my heart, you will always remain
Like a sunflower under the sun in spring and rain.
I don’t want to possess you to relish my own desires
As you, my love, are the flower in which the beauty of the world conspires"

This poem certainly describes what a 'Rare Commodity' love can be but the emotion is tempered with an element of realism.

Firstly I probably need to clarify exactly what I mean in my summary. Normally a poem that may on the face of it be celebrating a great love will solely focus on the good. However, there is a real mix of reality and passion here. Alongside very romantic lines such as, 'It's amazing how much I love you' there are decidedly gritty lines where you describe how the other person has 'stuck it out' almost as if it's been a chore. In the line, 'A love like other is what we have to date' it starts out so positive but the addition of the final two words almost add an element of uncertainty.

Overall this poem works well. It's heartfelt, real and full of emotion. Personally however, I found the radically divergent images a little too distracting.
