5 Friends

5 Friends

A Poem by StacyPerry

The faces of others look upon me,
They only see the outer appearance and not the inner beauty
It seems they want to look deeper through the charm,
I always hold them at a distance as I do want anymore harm
After they get through the first layer and into a status called; Friend,
It is only then that I begin to love them until it ends
Someone shall harm me whether a stab in the back or a slice in the throat,
I know of one that would actually gloat
I keep closing myself off from the others for that reason,
Never understanding why I deserved this wretched treason
Then yet again I turn to another,
I haven't learned my lesson and I will usually get smothered
Another one gone, another friend lost,
Why is my heartbreak the seemingly cost??
I just wish for once that the friend I hold dear,
Would stay by my side very close and near
I want to be able to count on someone,
Not turn around and see that they've run
So I hold tight to my five friends,
I just hope that they'll stay with me through this life's end.

I completely agree with coyote on this one.
Those people who you have such a powerful bond with are hard to find in life, and some people sadly go through their life searching..
But other, the lucky few find the ones they need, the ones they've been looking for.
Beautiful piece. I loved it. Hold on tight

Resounds with subtle hints of The Five. Almost like a short precursor. Of course two poems came after The Five and were written in honor of it. One by Scott Dixon and the other by Dallas Jeter.

A very good poem. In a life we have few friends who would pick us up at 3am in the morning. Come and fix our car at a moment notice. Talk to us till late in the morning when we are feeling lonely. A excellent poem. A true friend are diamonds in a life.

Sadly, this has been my life up to this day [of me being 35 years old]. Sometimes truth is easier then fiction to write.

The pain of wanting friendship, which we all do. You describe it exactly, the pain of trusting someone not worthy, but how do you know unless you trust? We all want a friend who will stick by is during good times and bad. An outstanding write.
