Gothic Story

Gothic Story

A Poem by StacyPerry

The day came when I got the call,
I was told that you were gone
I couldn't stand up tall,
My heart was breaking at the thought that your life was done
I went into a half catatonic state,
I was sitting in the car just staring ahead
A friend came to me so he could try to sate,
I had to utter the words to him that you were dead
He let me cry on his shoulder but no tears would fall,
He said it would be alright
I am trying to look back and recall,
I think I said that I am left without fight
He hugged me and then told me to be safe on the way,
I said thank you and I began to drive home
A mind set on auto-pilot or so they say,
The car took me to my destination in my mind, unknown
I walked up the stairs and into the door,
If this were a true Gothic torture story
Where's the Raven saying "nevermore"??

The poem is painful, really. I loved it when you added the "nevermore" thing from Poe's Raven. I love Poe. LOL. This is too sad. When someone I'm close with died, I wasn't able to cry. Even though my heart was broken that time, there were really no tears falling from my eyes. I understand this poem truly.

Painful and introspective, dealing with the emotions that accompany great loss is both tragic and sad. This is a great snapshot of the moment, freezing the misery inside a cube of time like a water paperweight where the snow never falls.

When we lose someone close. We go into another world. Poem description was very good. I could feel the zoning out and losing control. The ending was very good. I like poem that are left with a question. A excellent poem.
