Hurricane of Humanity

Hurricane of Humanity

A Poem by Sheriah Mozelle

As I stare out of this window,

I can see the cracks,

Every splinter and line,

Its very being shattering in front of me,

The rain outside comes down in small rivulets,

The sky is slowly crying,

Trying to drown all of its pain,

And the human race with it.

We are all victims of our own misery,

Unsure and selfish,

Dumbfounded by the actions of others,

Humanity at its finest is still not enough,

Cruel and heartless,

We are all murderers and oppressors.

The simplest creatures in the world are better than us,

A bumble bee does not know what the action of a sting is,

It is self-defense,

We however are fully aware of our actions,

Aware of the outcomes,

We still pursue with our horrendous deeds,

We are unwilling to change.

We refuse to see the rifts,

The small webs of destruction left in our wake,

I can see the universe tearing apart as I stare at the window,

It is like a spool of thread unwinding,

As it slowly becomes collateral damage.

The water starts to leak through,

I know that this is almost the end of it all,

In the eye of the storm,

A hurricane of humanity,

Everything else is gone,

The only thing that keeps me safe is this small pane of glass,

We did this,

We brought this upon ourselves,

I hear each and every snap that the glass makes,

Telling me that it is getting closer,

A steady stream is coming through,

Then with a last shutter,

It implodes,

I am no longer safe.
