Foreseeable Future

Foreseeable Future

A Poem by Sheriah Mozelle

As blood pours from the sky,

A young girl fights for her life,

She screams out of anger and frustration,

As a bullet grazes her forearm,

As the bloody rain drips from her charcoal black hair,

It stains her alabaster skin.

She runs as fast as she can,

Thrashing through nature’s painted red forest,

Her bare feet slick with the crimson substance,

She witnesses only death around her,

Mutilated corpses of trees and animals,

Her home destroyed by beasts.

She is pursued by monsters,

They chase her through a field of ash,

What was once a lush and vibrant meadow filled with life,

But now it only houses despair,

It is a desolate place.

The girl continues to run,

The beasts continue to chase her,

The sky continues to cry bloody tears.

When safety seemed so near to her,

She slips in the slick, metallic smelling rain puddles,

And they reach her,

The beasts,

They ask her who she is and she replies with,

“I am Mother Nature, and you are humans.”

With that she dies at their hands.
