Posessions

Posessions

A Poem by Scout

I held the locket in my hand

it glimmered in the sun light

My grin spread from cheek to cheek

as I squeezed it lovingly in my palm

The lockett meant so much to me

full of meaning and value

I think I might die without it

but what I fail to remember

is that on the other side of the world

a little African girl

is holding a treasurley posession too

A very different treasure

not even one you can keep

in her hand is a rain drop she caught

and she let the tiny wetness sink into her soul

This brave child and so many others

would give anything to have

just one of my posessions

She would treasure toilet paper

water

a meal a day

even a pair of sandals

What means so much to her

is hew own life and her family's

I should be more grateful

because if they can live without clothes

I should be able to live without my lockett

Once again very pretty and it really makes you think...how lucky we are and how much we take it for advantage..

Great insight. I loved it. This is gross, but sometimes I won't shower for three days just to have an amazing one to appreciate it more. People don't seem to appreciate anything anymore or care for others. I really like this poem.
